International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)

World without Wars is not an official member of ICAN but has been promoting its campaign and publishing articles on nuclear disarmament themes through the international press agency, Pressenza.

We have been present at two out of three international conferences to assess the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons; in Oslo in March 2013 and in Vienna in December 2014. The results of these conferences have informed our point of view regarding the urgency for nations to prohibit all activities connected to nuclear weapons given: the inability of any State or organisation to give an adequate humanitarian response in the case of nuclear explosions; the complexity of nuclear weapon systems and the inherent risks of accidental use; the historical incidents where the world almost suffered a nuclear war due to accidents and miscalculations; the incompatibility of any nuclear explosion with international humanitarian law as set out in the Geneva Conventions regarding the treatment of civilians in times of war, and; the current state of paralysis in disarmament talks taking place in the context of the NPT 5 yearly cycle of review conferences, and in the Conference on Disarmament.

Abolition 2000, network of anti-nuclear organisations.

World without Wars as member of the Abolition 2000 that campaign for the elimination of nuclear weapons and the replacement of nuclear energy with renewable sources,
has participated in the Abolition 2000 annual general meeting in Vienna on the 5th of May 2012 and in Edinburgh on the 17th and 18th of April 2013 in Edinburgh.
