Here is some information on our project to come in the autumn. Since we are not in the same stage as you guys in Europe, “in Canada, people are not in the streets yet”. So we have time to do planning and projects.
Since it was recommended to promote the World Forum for Peace and Nonviolence from September 21 to October 2 2011, we decided to launch a project which is a race for schools who participated in the World March two years ago. So from September 21 to October 2, schools will organise a race in Canada. We already met three General Secretaries who are in charge of more or less 100 schools in Canada, and they have accepted to publicise the race in all their schools.
We created a website (first created by the Italians): www.runthisway.ca
The teachers can go to the website and subscribe their schools. The website will be translated into English next week — and will also be translated into Spanish in July.
If you are in contact with schools who participated in the WM, you can invite the school to participate in the race. The schools that participate in the race will be linked to other schools who participate in the race.
So we will send pictures and create the possibility for the schools to be in contact through skype.
We will add up all the kilometres run by the kids and young people.
Also all the schools will be invited to participated in the World Forum in their country, city or region. We are also preparing another website for the Forum. We are planning to create a forum in high schools and colleges on the theme of redefining defence (armed forces) in Canada. The theme will be connected to climate change, military budget and the new millennium reality - the non aggressive approach in conflict resolution. We are now planning the event with 4 high schools.
We are also looking at the possibility of organizing a forum on education for nonviolence with the Université du Québec à Gatineau.
