Declaration regarding the situation in Syria

In 2011 we have taken great steps towards a better world. Millions of people, in hundreds of cities around the world are coming together to say no to this violent and brutal system that exploits human dignity and creates a world full of wars, hunger and generalised poverty and violence. On the 15th of October, people in 951 cities came simultaneously together under the umbrella of nonviolence and this was the first step towards the creation of a new world. Read more »

The Market has declared war on the people, subjugating governments and forcing them to break their agreements, to roll back social progress, advances in education and healthcare, to reduce access to pensions and stability in employment, etc., etc.  There is no limit to their greed which is leading us down a blind alley, towards an abyss in a crisis that they themselves have produced. As we enter 2012 we reflect on the year gone by and our hopes for this year...

How has the world developed from a humanist point of view?  Is the world a better or worse place to live in than 1 year ago?  What can we do in our organisation and as individuals to contribute to the creation of the world that we all long to live in?

It was one year ago that the first events took place that would later on be called the Arab Spring.  A Tunisian market trader set himself on fire and simultaneously awakened the hopes of people from Morocco to Syria, from Bahrain to Libya, who have been living under feared dictatorships for decades.

A caravan of awareness for peace and nonviolence in Mauritania

On the 25th of September a caravan of awareness on peace and nonviolence is being launched, towards Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania, by the Mauritanian Association, World without Wars and Violence (WwW), in collaboration with the Organisation for African Integration (OAI). This action will last a week culminating with a march for nonviolence on the 2nd of October this year, the International Day of Nonviolence, with the participation of the authorities, civil society and citizens.

66th Anniversary of the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima

The 6th of August is the anniversary of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.  In Japan an International Symposium of Anti-nuclear activists has taken place and their declaration which World without Wars and Violence totally supports is copied below.

On the edge of a global revolution?

What do Bolivia, Iceland, Tunisia, Egypt and Spain all have in common?  Besides being famous respectively for; ladies in bowler hats, volcanoes, mosaics, pyramids and Rafael Nadal there seems to be little to connect these diverse countries, yet they are all undergoing the most radical forms of social revolution that we have witnessed since the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Empire.

Global Day of Actions against Military Spending

In Athens, on the 12th of April, The Global Day of Actions against Military Spending, World without Wars, dressed up as the “invisibles”, together with other 10 organizations and 2 political parties, carried out an important event in order to create awareness of the extremely high military expenditure, especially in contrast to the severe budget cuts in social services (salaries, pensions, health, education etc.).

Demonstration against reforms proposed by government

The WwW base team in Brno co-organized a demonstration against currently proposed reforms. The Czech government is planning to make major changes to the pension system, healthcare, education system and other areas. According to experts, these reforms will lead to a significant reduction in the living standard of most citizens.
